The Research Centre for the History of Minorities

The Research Centre for the History of Minorities in Vienna, founded in 2006, is a non-profit organisation, concerned with issues of migration and their historical background. The core task is to deal with the Czech and Slovak minorities in Vienna. In 1900, immigrants from Bohemia and Moravia were the largest ethnic minority in the capital of the Habsburg Monarchy. On this topic the Research Centre for Historical Minorities also collects library collections and archival materials. But the research projects extend beyond the core task of the institution and deal in general with questions of migration from a historical perspective.
